We’re delighted to introduce our Sukoshi terrariums to the world of aquascaping. For a long time, we’ve felt and known about how similar the two are and knew it was time hobbyists were introduced to a different concept. So consider this:
Aquascapers, who love designing beautiful underwater landscapes, would really enjoy looking after a terrarium because the two hobbies are so similar. Both require a good eye for design and careful attention to detail, making it easy for aquascapers to transfer their skills to terrariums. They already know how to take care of plants and create balanced ecosystems, so managing the humidity, light, and soil in a terrarium would come naturally to them.
Terrariums also offer a fun, space-saving way to expand their hobby. Unlike aquascaping, which can need a lot of space and equipment, terrariums can be made in small containers that fit anywhere. Taking care of a terrarium is just as relaxing and rewarding, providing a sense of calm and accomplishment. Plus, it gives aquascapers a chance to learn more about land plants and sustainable gardening, adding a new dimension to their love of nature and design.
With all that said, let’s discuss these charming Sukoshi terrariums with a vibrant splash of colour nestled among live moss. First the name – Sukoshi means little in Japanese (pronounced Sko_shi). Terrariums styles are very much inspired by Japan so we feel it’s a nod to their heritage with a Japanese name.
We’re using plants that are perfect for terrariums called Fittonia as these thrive in humid conditions and their bright, varied colours are sure to catch your eye. They’re very hardy and need little care apart from moisture and light.
These terrariums are listed individually so you can take your pick but there is a special option called the 3 + 1. This is a unique offering where the 4th plant is a mystery plant that we feel really suits a terrarium (and it’s been chosen because it has a specific characteristic and this might be colour or potential flowering). We think this option would suit those who want to gift a terrarium to a friend or family member (birthday or other occasion ).
Closed terrariums require minimal maintenance, forming a self-sustaining ecosystem with a substrate layer for nutrients and drainage, topped off with moss. We include a care card with every order to ensure your terrarium remains healthy.
We ship the terrariums carefully packed with slightly moist filter wool. You’ll need to carefully remove this upon arrival. The plants and moss may appear compressed but will quickly recover so don’t worry!
