Nomaphila stricta fleur, also known as Hygrophila siamensis, is a fast-growing stem plant that is native to Southeast Asia. It is a popular choice for aquariums because of its attractive appearance and low maintenance requirements. In terms of positioning, Nomaphila stricta fleur grows to a height of 40-50 cm making it ideal for mid-background, depeding on your tank size.
It has dark green, lance-shaped leaves which are arranged in whorls along the stem and can grow up to 12 cm long and 4 cm wide making it very attractive. If you’re really lucky (and keep this plant above the water line), you’ll see small, white flowers (a real treat!).
Nomaphila stricta fleur is a relatively easy plant to care for so if you’re a beginner then it could be perfect. It prefers soft, acidic water with a pH of 6-6.5 so very similar to many other aquatic plants. The plant should be planted in a substrate that is rich in nutrients (like Tropica Aquarium Soil) and should be fertilized regularly – we recommed using Neutro T and Neutro CO2. Nomaphila stricta fleur does not require a lot of light – again another reason why it’s suitable for beginners (keep the lighting levels down to reduce algae growth).
On the whole, Nomaphila stricta fleur is a versatile plant that’s low maintenance and untaxing. Just remember to let it settle in before trimming and when you do, trim 40-50% off at a time to encourage bushy and strong growth.
