Malanda Gold Rainbowfish – Williams Creek

A critically endangered dwarf sized rainbowfish found on the Atherton Tablelands of northern Queensland.The fish is named due to its restricted distribution in the headwater streams of the North Johnstone River in the Malanda district. Found in cooler waters that are fast flowing. During the breeding season the colours intensify.

Theyare active swimmers and prefer to be kept in shoals of 6 or more in planted yet spacious aquariums.

Features of Malanda Gold Rainbowfish:

• Males are brownish-golden with narrow orange to brown stripes along the body
• Females are silvery-brown with paler orange-brown stripes along the body
• Males are much brighter and deeper bodied than females
• Peaceful community fish with fish of similar size & temperament
• Smaller rainbowfish species – grows to 5-6cm

Malanda Gold Rainbowfish are peaceful community fish that prefer to swim in groups of 6 or more. Best kept in a ratio of one male to two females. They can also be kept with other peaceful community fish and Rainbowfish of similar size.

Diet:

Fresh vegetables such as lettuce, kale, zucchini and cucumber can be provided.
