The Red Bellied Pacu is aspecies of omnivorous South American freshwater serrasalmid fish. While related to the piranha, the pacu has blunt teeth and is a peaceful fish. Growing large, this fish needs a big aquarium and is the ideal species for avid “monster fish keepers”.

Tank Mate Compatibility:

While peaceful, the red bellied pacu may view smaller fish as a snack. Best kept as a single species, however you may successfully be able to keep large pleco’s with them.

Diet:

The red bellied pacu will eat flake and frozen foods as a juvenile. Mainly a herbivore, they may eat live aquarium plants therefore we suggest keeping your aquarium plant free. We suggest transitioning to a pellet as this fish gets bigger.
