The Chequered Rainbowfish – Flat Rock Creek – M. inornata is generallyeasy to keep and suited for the beginner to intermediate aquarist. They are a popular species in the aquarium hobby.

Theyare active swimmers and prefer to be kept in shoals of 6 or more in planted yet spacious aquariums. They inhabit river systems in Australia from Darwin to Cape York. Generally the body colour is olivaceous to yellowish with white breast. Dorsal, caudal and anal fins are red to yellow chequered or orange-yellow with bright red spots on their membranes, with faint black edge.
